Taking care of your nails

I want to share with you some of my top tips for taking care of your nails and in helping to produce strong healthy nails that look fab whether you wear a coloured, French or leave your nails natural.   After all,  nails are fashion! Keep a good diet, eat plenty of fish, fruit and vegetables,  this will help with many other things, not just your nails. If you have brittle or flaky nails, try and avoid growing them too long. This will avoid the constant disappointment when they flake or break. Whenever you are washing up, using cleaning products or are in the garden, wear gloves to protect you nails, working with cleansing products can make nails brittle and break down the products used during your manicure/pedicure. Avoid Deet in insect repellent, get someone else to apply this for you,  or if you have to apply it yourself,  I spray mine on then rub in using a tissue, but wash your hands immediately.  Deet will break down the gel product on your nails.  Always was hands after  applying suntan lotion too.  Avoid getting fake tan on your nails as this can stain and change the colour of your polish. You can paint over the top of your Gel polish should you want another colour for a specific reason,  but when removing it use an acetone free remover and rinse your hands as soon as you have finished, nail varnish remover tends to dry them out. Do NOT file your nails unless absolutely necessary when wearing Gelish, if you really need to, take care to file gently and finish in a downward stroke. I would also always recommend that you apply a top coat straight after to seal the free edge. When filing natural nails make sure you file from the outside to the centre, NEVER file backwards and forwards, this can weaken, break or split nails. Look after your cuticles, use cuticle oil daily and after you’ve massaged your nails with the oil and /or hand cream,  gently push back your cuticles with a cotton bud, cuticle or orange stick. Before going to bed at night, always apply a drop of Cuticle Oil**to the base of the nail plate and surrounding tissue.  Massage thoroughly into nails, they will become more flexible because of the oil, which prevents them from becoming brittle and dry, so the polish is less likely to chip. … It’s a product that strengthens the cuticles and helps make them healthy. Don’t EVER pick, peel or bite your nails. Enhancements are designed to create an adhesive bond to the natural nail plate and if picked will cause damage to the natural nail. Finally, take care of your nails,  they are not indestructible,

treat your nails as jewels not tools”

and they will stay looking great for weeks! **Cuticle Oil – A synergistic blend of naturally light oils and vitamin E, to deeply penetrate, condition and protect skin and nails
